The first explorer was launched by Rolex in 1953 for a famous mountaineer in a legendary ascent on Everest Mount. The reference 1016 was introduced in 1963 replacing the earlier reference 6610. The reference 1016 is a classic watch, a cool clean aesthetic with the black lacquered dial on the early examples, features gilt printing and the signature 3-6-9 numeral layout. The present example is in nice original conditions. A good chance to get a very attractive cool timepiece at a reasonable price

Montre Rolex en acier, modèle Explorer, réf. 1016. Les premiers exemplaires furent produits par Rolex en 1953, pour l’ascension du Mont Everest par un célèbre alpiniste.
