The GMT-Master was created by Rolex in the second half of the 1950s in collaboration with Pan Am airlines for its crew to read a second time zone on their timepieces. The present example, ref. 16710, in superb condition is from early 90s, it retains its original punched guarantee. This watch is illustrated in “Rolex, Collecting Wristwatches” book by Osvaldo Patrizzi, Edition 2001, p. 336. This example comes from the famous Mondani collection of wristwatches. The present lot would be a lovely addition to any fine sports watch collectors.
