Vulcain was founded in 1858 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by the Ditisheim family, Jacque, and his sons Maurice, Gaspard and Aron. Originally creating fine pocket watches, it wasn’t until the early forties, in the midst of WWII, that the company turned its attention to the manufacture of wristwatches. The present lot is very elegant and oversized time-only watch produced by the Swiss brand. The main focus was on a very big dial that could allow the wearer to read easily the time. The 42 mm case is in 18k yellow gold with a snap on back and is composed of very thin lugs and bezel but of large thickness. The whole case is perfectly preserved and that is demonstrated by the clear and deep case numbers on the back while in the upper part is raising a little oxidation. The dial, as previously said, is big and of immediate comprehension with silver back ground perfectly preserved, applied yellow-gold Arabic numerals, outer perlage for minutes, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and thin gold hands. The watch is also sold with its box and booklets.
