Nicknamed “Cioccolatone” due to its resemblance to a square of chocolate, the present lot strike for its large distinctive shape and curved profile that really capture the zeitgeist of the time of its release in the 1950s, echoing the grand contemporary American curves of the period. This reference 6440 impresses by its sheer presence and unusual organic shape presenting a two-body case in pink gold with stepped bezel, rounded lugs, domed thick crystal in really great conditions, still showing the hallmark under the lug. It also features the elusive bumper automatic caliber 1071. The charming dial has a gilt color with applied pink gold square and triangular indexes.
