In the 1940s, Patek Philippe decides to dare with a new gradual process of design experimentalism which was able to provide his clients something different from the classical designs. The pick was probably reached in the ’50s with whimsical creations such as the Gilbert Albert-designed pieces or the 2442. Anyway, almost a decade earlier, at the beginning of the ’40s some other forerunner creations were forged in Patek’s laboratories such as the “Top Hat” 1450 or the “The Hour Glass” 1593 but among those with still the classic circular case the reference 1534 with its elegant lug design is a remarkable piece. Ref. 1534 was launched in 1942, in produced until 1947 and is believed then only very few examples have been produced and only 10 in pink gold such as the present lot. Nicely preserved, it is, of course, characterized by its unmistakable and unprecedented hooded mobile lugs, with still very deep steps. Further embellished with a pink dial, applied Roman numbers and seconds at 6 o’clock, this very specimen is the perfect piece for collectors who want to stand for the peculiarity of their watches.
