Launched in the spring of 1980, reference 3770/1 holds a unique place within the Patek Philippe line-up as an obvious blend between the Nautilus and the Ellipse. For this reason also known as the “Nautellipse”, the stainless-steel case is constructed similarly to its main Nautilus inspiration, signed by none other than Favre Perret, showcasing the signature ears as well as the integrated bracelet. A mixture of young sportiness and elegance, it gained popularity for being the model that allowed the Ellipse to be moved away from a dress watch into a sports watch, also giving it a truly water-resistant case. Made in steel, two-tone, and yellow gold, multiple dial options were available to appeal to different cross sections of buyers, the watch was exclusively offered with the quartz E27 caliber, thought to become a promising alternative amidst the quartz crisis. The example here offered is offered in remarkable conditions, with an elongated elliptical-shaped link bracelet, smooth bezel, two tones silvered dial and applied baton indexes.
