The wristwatch here offered is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 1512, an example from the family of OP with Date. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date made its debut in the mid-1950s, sported a slightly smaller 34 mm case size of the brother Datejust 36 mm. While the men’s Rolex Date was the same size as the men’s Air-King at that time, it provided the added functionality of the date window. So if you’re confused as to what the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date model is, think of it as the middle ground between the Air-King and the Datejust. The three-body case with engine-turned bezel, screwed down case back and crown, concave lugs of the present lot is in full 14 kt yellow gold and is impressive for all-original condition and quality of conservation. The dial has a champagne background with cross black lines that split it in four parts, the outer minutes scale is pointed every 5 minutes by the luminous materials and at 3 o’clock it is completed by the date wheel.
