The watch offered here is a remarkable specimen of reference 6334 Oyster Perpetual, also known as the “Golden Egg” due to its thick, gold-capped case. This timepiece boasts a charming composition of two-tone materials—stainless steel and yellow gold. The gold-capping process differs from simple electroplating, involving a gold shell or cap formed from a thick sheet pressed onto a base metal case with a thin layer of flux to bond the layers. Nicely preserved, this example still shows clear engravings on the back and a beautifully colored gold front face. The honeycomb dial is very attractive, with a light patina developing gracefully over time. It features applied indexes with an “Explorer” configuration, including 3, 6, and 9 Arabic numerals. At 12 o’clock, the rare “red depth” indication is displayed, while the lower part of the dial bears the designation “Golden Egg.” Elegant and rare, this lot is truly a special piece for any collector.
