The movement of the present watch is the Beta 21 developed at CEH research laboratory by twenty Swiss watch manufacturers. It was accurate to 5 seconds per month, far better than any automatic or manual wind movement of the day. Piaget decided to locate it in a big, rectangular size watch either in white or yellow gold. The present lot is a very rare specimen realized in 18k yellow-gold reference 14 101 whose case is still very nice with very clear engravings on the case back and rich edges. The dial is a true rarity and has been made with rubellite, a hard stone with a striped red color that matches perfectly with the strap.
