In 1966, Audemars Piguet in conjunction with Jaeger LeCoultre and Vacheron Constantin, started working on creating an ultra-thin automatic movement. The present lot houses one of the most historically important movements ever made. From the mid-1950s, brands were searching for ways of proving their technical mastery, like this “Tourbillon Automatique” model, launched in 1986, at the time believed to be the world’s thinnest and smallest self-winding tourbillon movement. It was, furthermore, the first tourbillon carriage in the history of mechanical watches made of titanium. The fascinating gold and mother-of-pearl dial is decorated sunrays style. The very thin case is absolutely elegant, the case back is totally shiny and almost never worn.
