The 1988 is the first year of production of the reference 16618, equipped with the caliber 3135 and the calendar with quick functions. The model was available with a variety of dial versions, where the current Sultan one represents a veritable collector’s gem in its category and is among the rarest due to its applied diamond and sapphire indexes. The dial that decorates this special Submariner is also called Serti, which derives from the French verb Sertir, whose meaning in the jewelry sector is “to set”, and indicates, precisely, special dials with embedded gems of various types such as rubies, sapphires, diamonds or emeralds equipped on various models such as Datejust or Day-Date but usually reserved for GMT Master II and, precisely, Submariner.
