Most of the watches produced by Cartier over the years have always been amazed by its ability to totally break the mold with the aesthetic standards of the period in which they were designed. The Tonneau is one of those and was received with a bit of skepticism when in 1906 it was presented to the world due to its particular elongated and curved shape able to remember that of a barrel (in Frances Tonneau). This lot is one of the nicest tonneau specimens aver seen with its well-preserved platinum case and cabochon. The engine-turned decoration of the dial is still very beautiful and the black Roman numerals still maintain their original vivid color.
