In 1969 references 6263 and 6265 were simultaneously launched, both with the wording “Oyster” on the dial. Based on the experience made a few years earlier with the ref. 6240, to tell the truth not particularly positive on the commercial level, these two new Rolex chronographs were also equipped with screw-down chronograph pushers. Reference 6263 such as the present lot is the last version of the Rolex Daytona made with a manual-winding Valjoux movement. A reference point for Daytona collectors, the 6263 is one of the most desirable vintage Daytona models. The present wristwatch is incredibly well preserved: its stainless steel case has still the original proportions, the satin finish on the lugs, sharp edges and crisp and legible serial numbers. This, in combination, with the black acrylic bezel insert, characteristic to this reference, trick the eye to perceive the dial as somewhat larger than it is and serves to give the watch great presence. It also features the very coveted silvered dial with the attractive big red “Daytona” script and contrasting subsidiary registers, preserved in astonishing original overall condition. Moreover this lot comes with all the accessories such as its original box, warranty and booklets.
