The extraordinary example here offered is a unique specimen of the reference 5139 which debuted at Baselworld in 2008 and was updated in 2011 to include a lacquered dial. Its elegant and luxurious style comes from the 1973 Patek Philippe ref. 3520, the first one to include the now iconic “Clous de Paris” bezel. Beautifully manufactured with an 18K white-gold case measuring 38 mm in diameter and 9 mm thickness, this watch features perpetual calendar, moon phases, 24 hours and leap year indicator. Preserved in pristine conditions, what makes special the present lot is its never seen electric blue dial with feuille hands. Further embellished with applied white-gold Breguet Arabic numerals, looking closer at the sub-dial at 6 o’ clock of this unique piece one will notice, inside the moon phase subdial, the initials M-S-O printed in white ink. This indicates that this dial was made upon special request for Michael S. Ovitz, a renowned Patek Philippe collector. Ovitz was a talent agent for Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman and would go on to become the former president of the Walt Disney Company from 1995 to 1997. As a privileged customer of the Swiss brand, Ovitz commissioned many Patek Philippe watches with custom dials. Mr. Ovitz had a particular appreciation for complicated watches and Breguet numerals, selecting references which spoke to him and requesting a particular dial color and configuration for each. In the years, some of his special request has appeared on the market and all of them have always had the capability of strike passionates for their peculiarity, beauty and elegance. Rarely does one have the opportunity to acquire a piece unique, let alone a piece unique by Patek Philippe, moreover, this watch is accompanied by the Original Warranty confirming the sale of the present watch in white gold on September 30, 2014.
