Inspired by the legendary Patek Philippe World Time watches from the mid-20th century, such as ref. 2523, the reference 5230 was introduced at Baselworld 2016 as the replacement for reference 5130, one of the most recognizable creations by Patek Philippe. This specimen embodies the classic design of its earlier models, and relaunched the famous world time watch with a gorgeous and careful design, inheriting the iconic design of its predecessor, featuring a world time ring and decorated centerfield. With a rich history spanning over 80 years, the present lot features an 18k white-gold case measuring 38.5 mm, a surprising 1 mm decrease in size from its predecessor. Preserved in exceptional conditions, the back has a transparent glass capable of showing the 240HU caliber. The dial exhibits a breathtakingly mesmerizing grey guilloche at the center which has been meticulously handcrafted using a rose engine lathe. As a new member of the Worldtime collection, the present reference inherits the iconic design of its predecessors and is offered with its certificate of origin, wooden presentation box and all literature.
