Firstly, produced in stainless steel only, with the changes of tastes the Submariner also presented models entirely made with other materials, such as yellow gold with the reference 16 618, exactly like the wristwatch offered here. This specimen was in production between 1988 and 2008 as an opulent version of the world’s most coveted divers’ watch. The 18K yellow-gold case and bracelet further add an aura of lavishness to the very durable tool watch. Not only is the stylish proportions retained, but it is now even more opulent in a yellow-gold case which contrasts perfectly with the electric blue dial and bezel for an outstandingly powerful final aesthetic effect. Using the same newly introduced calibre 3135 equipped on its stainless-steel counterpart, ref. 16 610, the 16 618 is also the last generation of gold Submariner models to feature the thinner traditional case and the nostalgic aluminum bezel insert. Exceptionally well preserved, this ref. 16 618 is offered with its original warranty, booklets, tag and leather wallet, making this lot a rather compelling opportunity to add a testament of Rolex’s quest for luxury to any collection.
