The Rolex Day-Date reference 6511 is among the most significant Day-Date models ever produced and holds a special place in the history of Rolex. Introduced in 1956, reference 6511 was cased by Brevet in either yellow or rose gold and featured a distinctive red date wheel and “DAY-DATE” text, an iconic characteristic of early Day-Date models. This specific example stands out due to its rare white dial and the following features: particularly significant as it displays the depth rating “50 m = 165 ft” at 12 o’clock and the “Day-Date” text in red, a design element that was present only on the very first dials produced for this reference, making it exceptionally rare. The overall layout of the dial is elegant, with applied gold hour markers and luminous dots, giving it a clean, refined look. The 6511 model was only produced for about a year before being replaced by the 661x series, making it extremely rare and sought after by collectors. The yellow-gold tonneau-shaped case, with a screw-down case back and reeded bezel, remains well-preserved, reflecting the careful ownership over the years. Additionally, this particular piece comes fitted with a Jubille yellow-gold bracelet, which is another hallmark of early Rolex production and enhances the overall collectible value of the watch. With its very well preserved case, rare dial, and important historical significance, this Rolex 6511 is truly a remarkable example of early Rolex craftsmanship and innovation.
