The present Portugieser Regulateur is particularly distinguished by its special regulator dial layout—a nod to the traditional regulator clocks that were once central to watchmaking workshops due to their precision in setting the time on other timepieces. The Regulateur’s dial is notable for separating the hour, minute, and second hands into distinct sub-dials, which not only enhances legibility but also adds a distinctive visual appeal. The hour sub-dial is positioned at 12 o’clock and features Roman numerals, the minute hand occupies the central position, and the seconds sub-dial is placed at 6 o’clock. The model in question is part of a limited edition produced for the prestigious German retailer Wempe. This special edition was produced in a very exclusive run, with only 25 watches in platinum, 50 in 18K pink gold, and 100 in stainless steel. Wempe, a company founded in 1878 by Gerhard D. Wempe, is a highly respected name in the luxury watch and jewelry industry, known for its association with some of the world’s most renowned watch brands. The Portuguese Regulateur here is part of the stainless steel edition, limited to 100 pieces and bearing number 12. The dial also includes the Wempe retailer signature at 3 o’clock. Its limited edition status, combined with the legacy of IWC’s craftsmanship and the exclusivity of the Wempe collaboration, makes this watch a true testament to the values of precision, tradition, and enduring design that IWC Schaffhausen represents.
