Launched in 1957 alongside the Speedmaster and the Seamaster, the Railmaster was Omega’s response to the anti-magnetic watches produced by IWC and Rolex. The Railmaster’s production ceased in 1963, possibly due to its association with the history of colonization, which may have affected its reputation. Despite this, the name remained in Omega’s archives and has been revived in recent years through modern reinterpretations, such as the Railmaster XXL, reference 221.53.49.10.01.001, offered here. Produced in a limited series of 157 pieces in 2007 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Railmaster’s launch, this model features a three-body pink gold case with an inclined bezel, a transparent screwed-down case back, and lyre lugs, all very well preserved. The black dial is adorned with dart indexes, luminous Arabic quarters, outer minute divisions, a subsidiary seconds dial, and luminous pink gold dauphin hour and arrow minute hands. The present Railmaster XXL also comes with its original box, papers, booklet, and tag, enhancing its value for collectors. The combination of historical significance and modern craftsmanship makes this limited edition a prized piece among watch enthusiasts.
