Few watches in history have attained the cultural significance of the Nautilus. It represents the very essence of luxury, glamour, exclusivity, and access, securing its position as one of the top three most iconic models ever created in the world of horology. However, among all the Nautilus models ever produced, there exists one particular iteration that stands above all others—a watch so rare that very few have even had the privilege of holding it. This is one of those exceptional timepieces. Instantly capturing the hearts of discerning collectors from its launch in 2006, the 5711 became an undisputed icon of contemporary watchmaking, with demand soaring to unprecedented heights. Anyway, in 2011, Mr. Ike Honigstock, one of the world’s most renowned watches collectors and a very loyal client of Patek, had an innovative, special request to direct propose Mr. Stern. After having owned an original vintage platinum Nautilus 3700, Honigstock conceived the idea of having Stern and Patek Philippe craft a 5711 in full platinum and without any kind of diamonds. Stern, understanding the significance of such a request, agreed to produce it—but only on the condition that it would not be a one-off. Instead, they would create a very limited series of just around 12 pieces reserved uniquely for VIP clients, ensuring that the watch remained incredibly exclusive. Dated October 2012, the present 5711-1P-010 is one of the precursors of those in platinum ever manufactured. While the “normal” platinum variant features a vivid blue hue, this dial shows a rather brighter tone of blue making it truly exceptional and breathtaking. The case and bracelet further distinguish themselves with more pronounced bevels, enhancing the watch’s architectural appeal. As a final hallmark of exclusivity, Patek Philippe adheres to its tradition of marking all platinum timepieces with a discreet diamond at 6 o’clock, a subtle yet unmistakable symbol of prestige. So rare is the platinum reference 5711 that only a handful have graced the auction market. The present example, however, representing a whole other level of exclusivity, is fresh to the auction market and is delivered with lots of accessories, certificates and paperwork.
