Audemars Piguet’s vintage calendar wristwatches are among the most revered by collectors, admired for their rarity and horological significance. With production kept exceptionally limited, they stand as some of the scarcest complicated vintage timepieces from any brand. From 1924 to 1967, only around 176 non-perpetual calendar models were crafted, an extraordinarily low figure that underscores their exclusivity. Even if extremely scarce, Audemars Piguet’s production of calendar wristwatches can be divided into two distinct periods, each characterized by a different movement. The first era, spanning from 1924 to 1954, primarily utilized the caliber 10GHSM, showcased by the present example, with the exception of the very first calendar model, which featured the 10HPVM movement. The second phase introduced a shift in mechanics, transitioning to the caliber 9/10RSQ.. The present rectangular white gold annual calendar from Audemars Piguet however is no ordinary timepiece. Realized in 1931 and only delivered to Bittman in Sankt-Moritz at end of 1936, only 9 examples where manufactured in white gold with only two examples having surfaced and known, the present being one of the two. Showcasing an exceptionally elegant rectangle tortue case, the date is indicated by a central hand, with two further apetures displaying both the day and month above the Audemars Piguet signature. A fine engraved and enamelled railway minutes track frames the entire dial with an additionally engraved and enamelled center dial date track. Preserved in truly excellent overall condition with a crisp casbeband hallmark and caseback engravings, it truly represents a crucial chapter in Audemars Piguet’s legacy as one of the most elusive examples from an exceptionally rare and highly coveted lineage of calendar wristwatches. The present timepiece is further accompanied by an equally rare 14kt white gold C+B elastic bracelet, certain to ignite excitement, even among the most seasoned collectors.
