The Rolex Oyster Perpetual with date indication, first introduced in the mid-1940s, marks the direct predecessor to the legendary Datejust as we know it today. When launched, this model quickly stood out from Rolex’s lineup due to its larger case size of 36mm —a remarkable size for the era. Often referred to as the "Big Bubbleback" or "Ovettone" by collectors because of its generously sized case, the present watch is a superb example of this family. The reference 6105, introduced in 1951, is considered one of the rarest variations of the Ovettone, and this particular piece, crafted in pink gold, is one of the earliest examples produced. It is still in remarkable condition, with the thin reeding on the bezel and the hallmark on the back of the lug remaining crisp and well-defined. The dial has aged beautifully, developing an attractive sand-colored patina with a distinct effect. Of particular note is the rare red "Officially" marking directly beneath the "Rolex Oyster Perpetual" text —an uncommon feature that further elevates its desirability among collectors. This is an exceptional and highly sought-after timepiece that represents both Rolex's rich history and the evolution of one of their most iconic models.
