The Omega Constellation is one of the brand’s most iconic lines, evolving through countless variations in dial, case, and bracelet design. In 1964, the third generation debuted with the bold C-Shape case, designed by Gérald Genta, marking a shift from the classic Pie-Pan style to a more modernist aesthetic. Featuring sleek baton hands and jet-style markers, the C-Shape offered a refined, forward-looking interpretation of the Constellation legacy. The distinctive case, shaped like two opposing Cs, became a signature of the line, which ran until 1978. Among its references, the 168.009 stands out as the first and most historically significant, produced from 1964 to 1966. It featured the renowned automatic caliber 564 and was fitted with a flat bezel, distinguishing it from later executions. While the majority of 168.009s were crafted in stainless steel, a small fraction were produced in precious metals, including the present white gold example. Further accentuating its rarity, this watch is fitted with a smooth bezel, eschewing the more commonly seen fluted style—and is paired with an exquisite white gold mesh bracelet. These elements elevate the timepiece into a league of its own. Taken together, it becomes clear that the C-Shape is not merely a continuation of Omega’s legacy, but a defining chapter in its evolution. Rather than following in the footsteps of the iconic Pie-Pan Constellations, it carves out an identity all its own—an entirely fresh and independent expression of mid-century horological design.
