The present Rolex Day-Date is a truly exceptional and incredibly rare example, distinguished by several key features that make incredibly important and collectible. The reference 1802, part of the Day-Date series, is housed in a 36mm platinum Oyster case, a configuration that is exceptionally rare. While the Day-Date 1800 series was produced in a variety of metals, this platinum example is a true gem. Adding to its rarity, the diamond markers on this watch are subtly larger than those found on standard production models, further enhancing its visual appeal and uniqueness. The dial, with its striking red “Khanjar” symbol, immediately catches the eye. This emblem, part of Oman’s national crest, signifies that the watch was made upon special request by His Majesty Qaboos bin Said Al Said, the Sultan of Oman, and presented as a gift to his most trusted dignitaries and collaborators. Watches adorned with the “Khanjar” symbol are among the most exclusive and coveted of all Rolex creations. Even more remarkable is the Asprey engraving on the case back. Given that the Sultan's early Rolex timepieces were exclusively available at the renowned London-based retailer, it is incredibly rare to find such an engraving still clear and legible. Most engravings of this kind have faded over time due to wear and polishing. Upon opening the case back, the case number is repeated inside, confirming that this was a special order made directly by Rolex at the Sultan’s request. This is a true collector’s piece —one that combines historical significance, rarity, and exceptional craftsmanship.
