Patek Philippe watches have always been recognized as the collectable piece par excellence, representing the pinnacle of haute horlogerie. Among these, the reference 5040 holds a special place in the brand’s history, having been introduced in 1992 like the presente lot, making it the first series/mark I iteration, and remaining in production until 2007 with two more serires/marks. During its 15-year run, Patek Philippe produced this reference in a variety of precious metals, including yellow, white, and rose gold, as well as the ultra-exclusive platinum version. This model is particularly significant as it was the first tonneau-shaped watch by the brand to feature a perpetual calendar, a complication that has long been associated with Patek Philippe’s mastery of watchmaking. The elegant case, measuring 35 mm × 43 mm, draws inspiration from the 1930s, seamlessly blending vintage aesthetics with modern sophistication, maintaining the brand’s signature classic and timeless styling. At the heart of the 5040 is the ultra-thin automatic caliber 240Q, a movement that has been used for decades due to its remarkable reliability and refined architecture, featuring an off-center micro-rotor that allows for a slim profile while still delivering impressive technical performance. The exceptional example presented here is crafted in yellow gold and has been preserved in exceptional condition, maintaining all of its original allure. The dial has silver color presenting striking yellow-gold Breguet numerals and hands, which delicately complement the subsidiary dials, lending an extra level of refinement and exclusivity to the overall design. The harmonious interplay between the yellow gold case, subtly aged silvered-cream dial, bold black lettering, and gleaming gold details creates an absolutely sensational visual effect.
