In 2006, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5960, marking a pivotal moment in the brand’s history: it was their first in-house automatic chronograph combined with an annual calendar complication. This milestone timepiece was initially released in platinum, featuring a distinctive smoky grey dial, and later produced in various precious metals, including pink and white gold. Building on the overwhelming success of the reference, Patek Philippe unveiled the 5960/1A in 2014, a stainless steel variant that quickly became a favorite among collectors. This iteration offered a more contemporary and dynamic appeal while retaining the brand’s traditional elegance. The present example boasts a silvery-white dial, with striking black ring accents around the chronograph registers, lending it a bold and modern aesthetic. The layout remains inherently Patek Philippe: sophisticated, legible, and highly functional. The distinctive bullseye chronograph subdial, combined with the traditional annual calendar apertures at 12 o’clock, makes this reference instantly recognizable. Accompanied by its certificate and original presentation box, this exceptionally well-preserved example also carries historical significance, as it was previously part of the personal collection of football legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
