Introduced in the 1930s, the Rolex reference 3536 represents one of the most elusive and seldom-seen iterations of early Oyster Perpetual Cylinder Hooded models. This reference is scarcely documented in literature and has appeared only a handful of times in public, making it a true grail for discerning collectors. Produced in variety of metal combinations, including two-tone and fully pink or gold versions, the present example stands out as a fully stainless steel specimen, further accompanied by its original Gay Freres stainless steel bracelet. Embodying peculiar and refined design elements of the watches era, the reference 3536 showcases concave oversized bezel, straight slim lugs, and overall exceptional proportions. The stainless steel case remains remarkably well-preserved, boasting excellent proportions and retaining its original architecture. The centerpiece is its captivating dial, which has matured gracefully over time into a charming and highly desirable "mustard" hue. The tastesful patina is accented by its bold Arabic numerals layed out in a Californa-dial style". Unquestionably a missing piece for the finest Rolex collections, this Rolex Cylinder Hooded reference 3536 remains in outstanding condition, a true testament to its previous owner’s care. A watch of such rarity, especially in this stunning, all-steel execution with a magnificent tropical dial, is an exceptional and almost never-seen find.
