The Astronic Chronograph ref. 0181 is the tangible result of that choice: a rare and elegant complication that reflects both Waldan’s independent spirit and his discerning eye for mechanical excellence. Crafted in the 1990s from a cache of Zenith El Primero movements wisely preserved since the late 1960s, the Astronic bridges two eras of watchmaking. Reference 0181 stands out as one of the very few complete calendar chronographs powered by the legendary El Primero caliber 3019 PHF. This example, no. 142, is encased in 18K pink gold with stylized fluted lugs and classical pump pushers. The 39.5 mm case blends vintage charm with modern presence, while the silvered dial offers an exquisitely balanced display: three recessed counters, applied gold Breguet-style numerals, bold calendar windows, a moonphase at six o’clock, and a vibrant tachymeter scale around the periphery.
