Introduced in 1959 as the successor to the pioneering reference 6542, the Rolex GMT-Master 1675 ushered in a new era for the model. The rarer yet fragile bakelite bezel of its predecessor was replaced by a sturdier metal insert, and for the first time, protective crown guards framed the winding crown, reinforcing the watch’s status as a robust professional instrument. Conceived as the ultimate companion for aviators navigating multiple time zones, the vast majority of production was executed in stainless steel, leaving yellow gold examples as a far rarer and infinitely more coveted sight. The earliest gold iterations present fascinating differences when compared to their steel counterparts, most notably the absence of crown guards, a detail soon adopted across the range. The present specimen showcases a highly charming glossy brown dial, identified by the distinctive hyphen in “OYSTER–PERPETUAL” and the clean “T.SWISS.T” designation at 6 o’clock. Equally evocative are the distinctive "baton-shaped hands, paired with the celebrated “nipple” indexes that have become a hallmark of vintage golden GMT-Masters. Offered in an exceptional state of preservation, its rich brown metallic bezel insert harmonizes beautifully with the dial, lending the watch both depth and warmth. Striking on the wrist and immensely rare on the market, this GMT-Master 1675 in yellow gold represents not only a milestone in Rolex’s history of tool watches but also one of the most desirable and collectible versions of the reference to surface in recent memory.
