In modern horology, few complications unite intellectual brilliance and mechanical poetry like the perpetual calendar. Replicating the irregular Gregorian calendar is already remarkable; making it intuitive and fully crown-adjustable was revolutionary—an achievement credited to Kurt Klaus, one of IWC Schaffhausen’s most important figures.Having joined IWC in 1957, Klaus rose from repair watchmaker to master developer, and in the mid-1980s conceived a perpetual calendar controlled entirely via the crown—eliminating pushers and redefining usability. Introduced in 1985, the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar reference 3750 became a landmark, combining this system with a chronograph inside a bold, architectural case.
The present stainless steel example with black dial and matching bracelet embodies this spirit. Its display remains balanced and legible, with moon phase and chronograph seamlessly integrated. Offered in attractive condition with full accessories, it stands as a testament to IWC’s technical ingenuity.
