In the 1970s and 1980s, while others pursued technical bravado, Piaget perfected something far more elusive: the art of the thin dress watch as jewelry. Gold was not merely a material, it was a canvas. Texture, engraving, polish, contrast, these became the vocabulary of the maison.
The present example in 18k yellow gold is a compelling expression of that philosophy.
The slightly rectangular case, generously proportioned yet refined, is framed by elaborate hand-engraved decoration: a flowing, almost baroque motif that softens the geometry and gives warmth to the gold. The engraved Roman numerals integrated into the bezel are not applied as markers, but carved into the very architecture of the case. It is sculpture as much as horology.
Inside this ornate frame sits a striking black dial: minimalist, glossy, uncompromising. No excess text, no distraction. Just two slender gold hands floating over a deep, lacquered void. The contrast between the richly decorated case and the restrained dial is deliberate and powerful. It is precisely this tension that gives the watch its personality.
This is not a sports watch. It was never meant to be discreet.
It is a statement piece from an era when elegance was bold, gold was celebrated, and refinement meant confidence rather than understatement.
Preserved in excellent condition, with its engraved surfaces still crisp and vibrant, this Piaget is a reminder of a time when dress watches were the center of the conversation.
