In 1981, at the height of the quartz crisis, Jean-Claude Biver and master watchmaker Jacques Piguet acquired the dormant name Blancpain for the symbolic sum of CHF 21,500. Their vision was deliberately opposed to the prevailing trend: rather than embracing electronic watches, they sought to revive the prestige of traditional mechanical horology through finely crafted complicated timepieces. This philosophy became the foundation of Blancpain’s renaissance and helped restore interest in classical complications at the end of the 20th century.
Dating to the late 1990s, the present wristwatch perfectly reflects that spirit. It is an elegant triple calendar with moon phases, a complication rooted in classical watchmaking, here elevated through Blancpain’s signature blend of mechanical refinement and decorative artistry. The round case is framed by a bezel set with set with vivid baguette-cut emeralds, lending the watch a jewel-like presence while preserving balanced proportions.
The dial is richly composed: its center is fully pavé-set with diamonds, surrounded by a calendar ring with diamond hour markers and pointer date scale. Twin apertures beneath 12 o’clock display the day and month, while a moonphase at 6 o’clock completes the classical layout. Slender hands maintain legibility without disturbing the intricate aesthetic.
