Among independent watchmakers, few names command the same quiet reverence as Svend Andersen, a founding member of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants and widely regarded as one of the spiritual fathers of modern independent horology. World Time watches occupy a central place in Andersen’s oeuvre and legacy. Inspired by Louis Cottier’s pioneering 1930s constructions, Andersen reinterpreted the complication not as a nostalgic exercise, but as a living, evolving concept. His World Time watches are celebrated for their clarity, mechanical elegance, and poetic connection to global travel, each one assembled and finished in Geneva with an almost artisanal intimacy. The present example, crafted in platinum, represents one of the most noble and restrained expressions of Andersen’s World Time. The dial is anchored by a beautifully rendered map, here executed in rich blue tones, with continents subtly textured to create depth and contrast. Encircling the map, the 24-hour ring allows for instantaneous reading of time across all major time zones, while the outer city ring, engraved with global capitals, completes the composition with scholarly precision.
