We are pleased to offer for the first time at auction, as lot 199, a timepiece registered in the "Archivio Pucci Papaleo". An innovative and distinguished initiative, recognized for its high standards, dedicated to collectors who wish their timepieces to be formally recorded, documented, and safeguarded within an authoritative and independent framework.
Fitted with an exceptionally well-preserved white “Paul Newman” dial, arguably among the most charismatic and sought-after of all Daytona configurations, the present watch stands as a superb representative of the reference 6262. Introduced by Rolex in 1970, the reference 6262 formed part of a short-lived yet important evolution of the Cosmograph Daytona, distinguished by its metal bezel, while its sister reference 6264 was fitted with an acrylic insert, both powered by the upgraded calibre 727. Both references 6262 and 6264 stands as a transitional reference, the last of the pump-pusher Daytonas before the screw-down 6263 and 6265.
This is precisely what makes the 6262 so compelling: not merely a reference, but a moment of evolution: briefly produced, quietly discontinued, and now among the rarest executions of the Daytona lineage, capturing Rolex at a pivotal crossroads.
Published in Ultimate Rolex Daytona (pp. 276–279), this watch is not simply attractive: it is validated, studied, admired. It represents the kind of Daytona that defines a collection rather than complements it. A special 6262 with pump pushers, calibre 727, and a tropical white Paul Newman dial is not something one upgrades from, it is something one waits for.
