Introduced in 1921, when wristwatches were still defining their aesthetic language, the Cintrée stretched the original Tank into an elongated, sensuous form that curved to the wrist. It was not merely a variation, but an evolution: sleeker, more architectural, unmistakably modern. Production remained discreet, often limited or made upon request, reinforcing its mystique among collectors.
The present reference WGTA0027, part of the Cartier Privé collection, was unveiled in 2018 as a limited series of 100 pieces in platinum. A metal perfectly suited to the Cintrée’s aristocratic lines, substantial yet discreet, the gently arched case sits with remarkable poise on the wrist.
The dial pays homage to early designs, with a delicate elongated chemin de fer track, baton markers with Arabic numerals at 12 and 6, and elegant sword hands. The crown, set with a cabochon ruby, signals its elevated status among Cartier creations.
Inside beats the hand-wound calibre 8971 MC, chosen for its slim architecture, while the caseback is engraved with its limitation number, here 16 of 100.
Presented with its original box and papers, this Cintrée perfectly embodies Cartier’s mastery of proportion: pure, elongated, and timelessly restrained.
