Introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date was the first wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full. With the launch of reference 1803 in the late 1950s, Rolex refined the model’s identity, adopting a new reference system and offering the watch in yellow, white or pink gold, fitted with a fluted bezel and plexiglass crystal. The result was a timepiece that embodied discreet authority and unmistakable elegance.
The present reference 1803, manufactured in 1965, is preserved in honest and original condition. Its 18k pink-gold case retains strong proportions, with the fluted bezel still well defined and the hallmarks clearly visible.
The silvered dial offers a refined and versatile aesthetic, enhanced by applied gold indexes that catch the light with subtle warmth. Particularly appealing is the day disc in Italian “Domenica” a detail that reveals its original destination. Rolex famously adapted the Day-Date for international markets, offering the day indication in 26 different languages, making each configuration a reflection of its cultural context.
