Reference 130, introduced in 1934, represents a landmark model for Patek Philippe, as it was the firm’s first chronograph produced in series. Manufactured for approximately three decades, the reference remained an important model, with an estimated total production of around 1,500 pieces. The majority were cased in yellow gold, followed by pink gold examples, while stainless steel versions are considerably rarer and two-tone specimens rank among the most elusive.
The elegant 33 mm case of the present watch was manufactured by the celebrated casemaker Emile Vichet, whose work is widely regarded as among the finest of the period. His cases can be identified by the maker’s mark featuring the number 9 inside the case back, a signature that has become synonymous with refinement, balanced proportions, and exceptional craftsmanship.
This example stands out for its attractive pink gold case; a metal configuration produced in smaller quantities compared to yellow gold examples.
The dial shows a charming tropicalization and displays a harmonious combination of Roman numerals and short baton indexes, lending the watch both classical character and visual depth. It is powered by the highly regarded calibre 13, based on a heavily modified ébauche supplied by Valjoux and finished to Patek Philippe’s exacting standards.
Accompanying the watch is its Extract from the Archives, confirming its production in 1952 and its subsequent sale in 1953.
