In January 1969, Zenith unveiled the El Primero, one of the very first automatic chronograph movements ever introduced and a landmark achievement in modern horology. Beating at a remarkable frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, the movement was conceived to deliver exceptional precision, a technical characteristic that would become its defining signature. The El Primero was launched across several references, most notably the stainless steel A386, A384 and A385, alongside the yellow gold G381. Among these, the A386 distinguished itself with its round case, faceted lugs and instantly recognizable overlapping “tricolor” registers, a design that would go on to become emblematic of the El Primero name. The present watch, Zenith El Primero A386 Revival Ref. 03.P386.400/07.C840, is a highly exclusive limited edition of 49 pieces created by Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the El Primero movement. Faithful to the proportions and aesthetics of the 1969 A386, this stainless steel revival retains the original 38 mm case diameter, pump pushers and sharp faceted lugs, preserving the vintage character of its predecessor. This particularly attractive example features an elegant eggshell dial complemented by three brown-toned subsidiary registers. The warm hues subtly reinterpret the historic tricolor layout of the original A386, while evoking the earthy design palettes that were prevalent at the end of the 1960s.
