When tradition meets provocation, sparks are inevitable. And few sparks have been as visually arresting as the encounter between Asprey and Bamford Watch Department. The result is not merely a customized diver, but a deliberate exercise in identity: the archetypal Rolex Submariner reimagined through a distinctly British lens. Here we are looking at reference 116610, number 3 of a strictly limited series of 25 pieces. A familiar architecture lies beneath the surface: the 40 mm Oyster case, hewn from steel, with its screw-down back, Triplock crown and unidirectional rotating bezel. A professional instrument by birth. Yet in this iteration, the utilitarian foundation becomes a canvas. Bamford’s signature black PVD treatment cloaks the entire case and Oyster bracelet in a stealth-like matte darkness. Against this deep black backdrop, Asprey’s unmistakable purple emerges with theatrical precision. The bezel numerals, dial accents and minute details glow in that regal hue, a chromatic signature long associated with the storied London house. And then, almost whispering rather than shouting, the white “Asprey” signature appears on the dial. A single line of contrast that breaks the black-and-purple duet, anchoring the collaboration in heritage while preserving its bold modernity. The caseback engraving further confirms its exclusivity: “Limited Edition 03/25 - Customized by Bamford Watch Dept.” Presented with its original Asprey box, accessories and documentation, the watch encapsulates a moment when customization crossed into legitimacy.
