Emerging from one of Patek Philippe’s most creatively fertile periods, the reference 2471 perfectly illustrates the maison’s bold experimentation with form in the mid-20th century. At a time when shaped watches were not merely alternatives but statements of intent, this model stands out for its confident proportions and unmistakable personality. Its defining feature is undoubtedly the case. Broad and rectangular, it is dramatically animated by its triple-scroll lugs, an exuberant flourish that has earned it the affectionate nickname “Ricciolino” among collectors. These sculpted terminals, reminiscent of curled ram’s horns, give the watch a sense of rhythm and movement, elevating it well beyond the conventions of traditional dress watches. The case was produced by the celebrated maker Markowski, whose work is synonymous with some of the most imaginative Patek Philippe designs of the era. His ability to translate daring concepts into harmonious, wearable objects is clearly evident here, with each curve and surface thoughtfully resolved. Produced for only a brief period in the early 1950s, the reference 2471 remains one of the more elusive large-format rectangular models from the brand. Its presence on the wrist is striking, offering both scale and sculptural depth, yet it retains the refinement expected of Patek Philippe. This example in pink gold, preserved in excellent overall condition, can be appreciated not only as a timekeeper, but as a reflection of a post-war aesthetic moment, when optimism and creativity found expression in daring, elegant forms.
