In the late 1970s, as quartz technology rapidly reshaped the watch industry, Audemars Piguet adopted a characteristically measured response. Rather than applying quartz to its most iconic models, the Manufacture chose to explore a parallel path, one that could embrace innovation while preserving its design integrity. Under the direction of Jacques-Louis Audemars and Georges Golay, this approach led to the introduction of the reference 6005 in 1978, designed by Jacqueline Dimier. While clearly inspired by the Royal Oak, the 6005 establishes its own identity through a distinct case architecture. The lines are softer and more rectilinear, with beveled edges creating a smoother, more continuous profile. The absence of the octagonal bezel and its exposed screws, here replaced by discreet studs, gives the watch a more refined and understated character, while retaining the signature integrated bracelet and high level of finishing. The present ref. 6005BA is a Jumbo-sized example crafted in yellow gold, offering both presence and warmth on the wrist. Its white tapisserie dial introduces depth and texture, while applied yellow gold hour markers enhance legibility and add a subtle sense of richness.
