Among the many shaped wristwatches produced by Patek Philippe in the post-war years, the reference 2461 occupies a particularly distinctive position. Known to collectors as the “Tegola” in Italian circles, it represents a confident departure from classical rectangular forms, embracing a more sculptural and architectural language. The present example showcases this design at its most compelling. Its elongated yellow gold case, creates a dynamic silhouette rarely encountered in mid-century watchmaking. The proportions, larger than its predecessor reference 425, give the watch a stronger wrist presence while maintaining remarkable refinement. Adding to its charm is the gently sloped crystal, which follows the contour of the case and enhances the visual fluidity of the piece. Equally appealing is the dial, whose soft silvered surface provides a restrained yet luminous backdrop to the applied markers and dauphine hands. Manufactured by the celebrated casemaker Markowski, identified by the poinçon de maître number 8, the case reflects a high level of craftsmanship, with crisp lines and well-preserved surfaces. His later collaborations on avant-garde designs make this earlier work all the more significant. Produced between the early 1950s and mid-1960s in a variety of metals, the reference 2461 remains one of Patek Philippe’s most elegant shaped watches, an object where design, proportion and rarity converge with quiet authority.
