Created in 1904 by Louis Cartier for Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, the Santos is one of the foundational models in the history of the modern wristwatch. In 1978, Cartier introduced the Santos Galbée, reinterpreting the original design with curved lugs, an integrated bracelet, and an automatic movement. The present example, crafted entirely in 18K yellow gold, belongs to this distinguished lineage. Its particular interest lies in the dial, which replaces the traditional Cartier signature at 12 o’clock with the Khanjar emblem of the Sultanate of Oman, depicting a crossed dagger beneath a crown. This distinctive detail identifies the watch as a special commission associated with the Omani Royal Family. The sober white dial is complemented by applied baton indexes, gilt sword-shaped hands, and a date aperture at 3 o’clock, while the crown is set with a cabochon sapphire. The bold, architectural case and integrated yellow-gold bracelet retain the unmistakable design language of the Santos, combining Cartier’s characteristic elegance with the remarkable historical significance of its Omani provenance.
