It was during the 1960s and 1970s, following the Scheufele family’s acquisition of the Maison in 1963, that Chopard developed a distinctly creative identity, freely exploring the codes of jewellery applied to watchmaking—sculptural bracelets, hardstone dials and forms inspired by the art of goldsmithing. The present example is a particularly evocative expression of this aesthetic. Its 18K yellow-gold oval case houses a remarkable green jade dial, characterised by reddish-orange natural inclusions and a distinctive organic pattern. Yet it is undoubtedly the bracelet that represents the tour de force of this creation. Entirely crafted in 18K yellow gold, it unfolds around the wrist through a succession of intertwined twists and loops, evocative of a finely knotted golden cord. This remarkable feat of goldsmithing transforms the timepiece into a true sculptural jewel, in which the horological function appears almost secondary to its artistic expression. The present creation embodies Chopard’s daring approach to jewellery watchmaking at the height of its creative inspiration, where precious materials, craftsmanship and artistic design converge to create an object of remarkable individuality.
