The Pasha de Cartier occupies a distinctive place in the history of modern watchmaking. Although its origins are traditionally associated with a water-resistant watch reportedly created for the Pasha of Marrakech in the 1930s, the model as we know it today was redesigned by Gérald Genta and introduced by Cartier in 1985. Genta transformed the historical inspiration into a bold and unmistakable sports watch, characterized by its round case, Vendôme lugs, oversized Arabic numerals and distinctive screw-down crown cover secured by a chain. The present example was created exclusively for the Arab Watch Club as a limited edition of only 50 pieces. Its striking burgundy sunburst gradient dial, enhanced by Arabic numerals and a matching Arabic date wheel, gives the watch a distinctive character while retaining the unmistakable Pasha design language. The steel case is complemented by the characteristic crown cover set with a blue cabochon. A particularly distinctive detail is found on the side of the case, bearing the Arabic inscription “Time is master of all”, created in collaboration with Syrian calligrapher Hazem Kurdali. The red engraving echoes the rich burgundy tone of the dial, adding a subtle yet highly personal touch to this special edition. Presented complete with its original Cartier presentation box and documentation, this unusual edition offers a particularly distinctive interpretation of Gérald Genta’s iconic Pasha design.
