Introduced in 1938, Patek Philippe reference 570 was conceived as the oversized counterpart to the iconic reference 96. Measuring approximately 35 mm in diameter, it was remarkably modern for its era and remained in production until 1972. Throughout its long production run, the reference was offered in a variety of case materials and dial configurations. The cases were manufactured by Antoine Gerlach, identified by the Geneva key hallmark number 4, the same renowned casemaker responsible for many reference 96 examples and closely associated with Patek Philippe’s Calatrava production. While the model was produced in several precious metals, platinum examples such as the present watch remain extremely rare and desirable. The dials were available with either central seconds or a subsidiary seconds display at 6 o’clock. The present example belongs to the former category, offering the clean and balanced aesthetic for which the model is renowned. It is powered by the calibre 27SC, which succeeded the earlier calibre 12SC used in the first generation of production. The watch is furthermore accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming its production and sale in 1963.
