This lot is a catching specimen of Patek Philippe reference 2509, also known as “Grande Calatrava Waterproof”. Launched in 1950 and in production until 1967, is the equivalent of reference 2508, but with subsidiary seconds rather than center seconds. In the years of its production was available in two versions, a first one fitted with lozenge-shaped indexes and a later one, such as this one, with lapped indexes and beady minute divisions. The two-body waterproof case with screw back of this 2509 has been realized in 18k yellow gold: its stepped and inclined bezel with concave lugs are all incredibly fresh and well preserved. The silvered dial has the rare and elusive signature of the historic retailer Gübelin active in Luzern from 1854. Moreover, this very dial is even more precious and rare considering the fact that the lapidated indexes and the dauphine hands have inner radium while usually is not present.
