Audemars Piguet vintage watches are widely recognized by collectors as rare and remarkable timepieces which stand out by their unique but classic styles and highly sought-after movements. This is one of the most unusual of designs to come out of the AP design studios in the 1950s, and is a fabulous illustration of how varied, and distinctive the design team was at this luxury watch atelier. The present example features the ultra-thin caliber 2003 with a record-breaking thickness of only 1.64 mm. Caliber 2003 was introduced in 1953 as a replacement of 9″’ML. Very thin and elegant, the yellow-gold case has an unusual engine-turned hobnail cut decoration and is pressed in very good conditions still showing the original laceration of the carrure. The champagne sector dial has painted baton numbers and stick gold hands.
