Tissot became the first company to introduce a mass-produced watch which offered basic protection against magnetic fields when they launched the Antimagnetique in 1930. Soon, the majority of companies started to introduce their alternatives to Tissot’s novelty. This Antimagnetique line, specimens made for the British and American market were signed “Non-Magnetic”, was in production well until the mid-1950s.They existed in countless variants in terms of movements, dials, case materials, and sizes. Sizes ranged from circa 31–32 mm up to well above 40 mm where the latter is surely the most difficult to find. The lot here offered is an Antimagnetique inspired by Omega Ref. CK 2039 with a huge 44 mm case, absolutely oversized and definitely very large for the time it was produced. Preserved in honest conditions, the stainless steel case has a snap on the back and reeded winding crown. The movement used is a sturdy 43s caliber pocket watch, often used in early military or aviator watches. The dial has the typical military layout with beautifully preserved black surface, gilt Arabic numbers and minutes track, engine turned subsidiary seconds at 6 and gilt hands.
