Flamboyant, whimsical and in stark contrast to Rolex’s tool watch aesthetic, the “Stella” are nowadays considered some of the most enchanting dials the Maison has ever produced. Introduced in the 1970s and made through the ’80s, these lacquered dials had a high-gloss finish and were available in a riot of colors, often differing from each other for a small variation tone. Nicknamed this way apparently for the name of the Swiss company that provided the special lacquer dials to Rolex, they were not popular initially but are highly collectable today. The example here offered is an astonishing specimen of 18346 fully realized in heavy platinum with a bracelet of the same material and a diamond-crusted bezel. The dials is simply incredible with its sea-foam green color and diamonds indexes that recall those on the over-mentioned bezel. Only a handful of Stella’s sea-foam green dials with platinum cases and diamond hour markers have appeared on the market in recent years, meaning that this very watch is an absolute chimera for collectors. This specific watch is published in David Silver Book “Vintage Rolex—The Largest Collection in the World.”
